Chris Ferguson Sunglasses – Professional Poker Player

Despite the fact that some poker players go days without stepping foot outside and into the sunlight, they’re some of the biggest fans of sunglasses out there; walk around big poker tournaments and often more than half the players are wearing sunglasses of one variety or another. Style isn’t their main concern, though, as most poker players who wear sunglasses do so because they think it gives them an edge by hiding their eyes from opponents who might find a clue there as to the strength of their hand.

As far as famous pros that don shades at the poker tables, Chris Ferguson is one of the more recognizable, with Oakley THUMP his sunglasses of choice at many tournaments. Nicknamed “Jesus” because of his long hair, Ferguson is one of the original founders of Full Tilt Poker and brings a cerebral approach to the game, getting his Ph.D in computer science at UCLA in 1999. He cuts an imposing figure at tournaments in his black cowboy hat, black duster, and Oakley sunglasses, and definitely knows his way around the tables.

An amateur poker player for many years, he made the leap to playing full-time in the 1990s, and has five World Series of Poker bracelets to his credit. He’s played online as well, and received a lot of attention for his various “Chris Ferguson Challenges” which saw him begin playing freerolls with no money whatsoever and eventually building up a bankroll of $10,000 in less than a year. He donated the $10,000 to charity once he hit his mark, with his challenge serving as motivation and a lesson in bankroll management for thousands of online players around the world.

He’s cemented his place as one of the best poker tournament players in the world over the last decade and done so with his own trademark style and look; decked out all in black he looks just like a gambler out of the Wild West (if you can look past the Oakleys). With more than $8 million in lifetime winnings from poker tournaments, it’s hard to argue with either his success or his style.
